Dealing with Common Plumbing Problems

Fixing Common Plumbing ProblemsPlumbing repairs are an important part of what we do at Image Home Improvement. Whether you have a small plumbing project or a larger one, we can help.

Plumbing has changed over the years. Technology improvements now provide us with many new products in the plumbing scope of work, such as Pex tubing and fitting. Relocating the shower fixtures as part of a shower repair will most likely require relocating the supply lines. Pex tubing and fittings make this much easier and quicker. No soldering is needed, as you can “snake” the tubing around corners without using elbows.

We provide a wide array of residential and commercial services — including water heater repair, plumbing installation, drain cleaning, leak detection and much more. Sometimes we find that the homeowner did not properly maintain the home’s plumbing. I’ve heard some plumbing horror stories which have caused many dollars in unnecessary repair costs. For example, do not flush chicken bones down the toilet — use the garbage disposal!

All kidding aside, one of the most important tips to remember is not to force any water supply valves. Chances are the valves have not been used since they were installed and are likely frozen. If they are forced, you could wind up with a flood from a plumbing leak! We install newer “angle stops” (1/4 turn valves) to help prevent this and make your lives more convenient.

Toilets can be very frustrating when they do not flush correctly. Usually this is because the “flapper” has worn out and the water will not stop running. Incorrect replacement by the homeowner could cause serious problems. In addition the float assembly needs proper adjustment to make it work just right.

Water heaters are definitely a service item a professional should handle. We have seen too many DIY improvised repairs. Using the correct size water heater and proper temperature settings are crucial to a successful replacement.

Plumbing drains can cause many problems. If you have a slow draining sink, it may be time for us to look inside with a special camera to examine your drain lines and ensure they are clear. Don’t settle for slow draining sinks, showers and tubs. It may not be just a drain clog — you could have tree roots growing into your pipes.

If you are not a skilled DIY homeowner, plumbing is not for you. Call the Image Home Improvement team. We can help!
